Q. How much will it cost to landscape my backyard?

Probably one of the frequently asked questions and impossible to answer without site visitation, consultation, and proper quotation. The cost of your landscaping is dependent on many elements and can range in price from a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands depending on:
  • Size
  • Complexity
  • Features - water or ornamental
  • Reticulation
  • Retaining
  • Drainage
  • Plant size
  • Soil
  • Turf selection
  • Site preparation
  • Local council restrictions
  • Paving
  • Electrical or Plumbing services required

Q. What is vertimowing? How do I know if my lawn needs vertimowing? Can my Buffalo lawn be vertimowed?

A. Vertimowing is the process of dethatching your lawn. Thatch in turf is the layer of dead and living shoots, stems and roots that develop on the surface of the root zone below the green tops. Your lawn needs vertimowing when it becomes soft and spongy to walk on. Buffalo turf can be vertimowed however it is not recommended.

Q. How do I tell if I have a lawn grub problem?

A. Magpies and other insect eating birds pecking at the lawn to feed on grubs and insects are a good indication that there may be a problem. The grubs chew on the grass roots just below the surface of the soil, severing the roots hence killing the turf. You will have 'dry patches' in your otherwise green lawn.

Q. I have green moss on the lawn. What do I do?

A. This indicates poor drainage and most likely too much shade. Give David Collins a call for advice

Q. What will kill weeds in my newly laid turf?

A. Pull out the big weeds, keep the lawn mowed regularly, if the problem persists the lawn may need to be sprayed once it is established.

Q. How often should the lawn be mowed?

A. As often as possible. To get the bowling green finish you can do as the green keepers do - mow daily! Otherwise generally the lawn should be mowed once or twice weekly in summer and once a month in winter, dependent on the amount of water and fertilizer you are applying.

Q. The lawn looks dry in spots even though I water regular. What do I do?

A. Keep a constant eye on your reticulation ensuring you do not have any blockages. You may have grubs or beetle feeding on the roots. Put the hose on the lawn and 'flood' the effected area, if bugs come to the surface they are most likely the problem. If you are watering at night fungus may also be the cause, otherwise the lawn may have excessive thatch build up and require de thatching.

Q. How often should I fertilize my garden and lawn?

A. Refer to gardening tips

Q. We have prickles in the lawn what should we do?

A. The problem is most likely Bindi Prickles, which can be eradicated with a selective herbicide. Give David Collins a call for a free quote.
